I have finished my first week and really like it there. I am hoping that there will be an opening there when my externship is done. Now I finally have time to get back to my knitting and spinning. My grandson is due in just 3 weeks and I haven't even started knitting anything. Hopefully I willl get something knit before he is born. Its going to be a close race.

Thats it for now. Maybe I will be able to get some blogging done now that this part of my education is done. I have to get signed up for the Pre-med program at U of M. I am going to try to get my PA (Physicians Assistant) license. Looks like a long haul with having to work full-time while in school. Not all that much fiber for sale and it just didn't seem like the spinners were that experienced. I found one booth that had some appealing roving. It was Maple Row Stock Farm from Sherwood MI. I purchased a 50/50 blend of N.C. Coopworth and N.C. Romney. The fiber has been over dyed in a dark forrest green. I just love the color. Not the softest but it isn't too bad. This was the only purchase I made and it cost me and my partner 12 bucks to get in. I have been knitting with Kramer's bare fingering weight that I have dyed. This yarn is so stretchy that is has been hard to get the socks to the dimensions they need to be. I did a gauge but even with a gauge they aren't correct because of the stretch. I finally had to just try and redo several times to get them to be close to the correct size. I am hoping that I have them correct or I will have to redo them for my swap partner after she gets them and tries them on. I am not sure I would use this yarn again because of the work involved in sizing and since I am a typical OCDer, I have been really going crazy with this one.

Now on to the spinning. I have received to packages of roving and will get to them just as soon as I am pleased with my spinning results. I made two attempts and wasn't impressed with my spinning skills so I set it aside for a month. Two days ago I got it back out and made the third attempt. Well, I am so impressed. I am spinning almost thread like yarn to make a 2ply lace weight yarn. I am not sure how I managed it but all of a sudden it made sense to me.

I am so excited that it is coming together. Power

Well folks, I live in the muggle town of Fenton Michigan less than 1/4 mile from where the evil tornado spell hit on Friday night. Muggle illuminating ceased to exist. They closed the freeway exits to our town and limited traffic to only cleared areas. We had an 8:00pm curfew on the entire town. The town lost most of its 100 year old Aspens, Oaks, and Maples. Power lines down everywhere. The entire town was without power and we were told that it wouldn't be on until Monday at midnight. Emergency crews and volunteers from everywhere came in to help clear the area, fix houses, clear houses that were to damaged to save. Power crews from several counties and states came in and in 24 hours we had our power.Everything is back on track and the knitting continues!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://theknittedman.blogspot.com/2007/08/yeah-power.html' title='Yeah! I have a pair of socks going for me which are made of Jitterbug by Collinette. Nice and bright to shock people. Then I am working on my Hogwarts Sock Swap Pal's socks. Couldn't find the colors I wanted so I decided to dye some bare yarn. I have the pattern and ready to start them today. It shouldn't take too long to knit them up.

I am also trying to learn to spin on a drop spindle. I don't quite have the drafting figured out but not doing to bad for the amount of time I have been able to spend at it.

Trying to get my Christmas knitting list together. I know that I at least have to do 2 stockings for the grandchildren. I am not sure what I am going to do for the rest of my family and friends but I have to come up with something.

Off to knitting and the yarn shop. They do talk about knitting but they have a wild time doing it. It is listed as explicit because they do get carried away with insinuations and they have a lot of comments that can be taken the wrong way but that is the fun of it all. Check out their blog at http://limenviolet.blogspot.com . You can get their podcast by a link on their blog or download it through iTunes.

Another knitting podcast to check out is It's a purl, man. Another insightful podcast a guy who knits from Boston. He also has people on their for interviews. He keeps up to date with what is going on in the Boston knitting world. Check it out at his blog at http://www.itsapurlman.com . I am using size US 1s. Normally I use "0's" with this yarn. I am trying to get these socks to the point of the class that I am teaching. I am doing 2 at a time on 2 circulars. I am to the heel flap which for me is the slowest part. Should go fast after the the heel. The second class isn't until next Thursday so I should be fine.

I start teaching a beginning class on Tuesday. I am using a dishcloth so that we can go through the basic stitches and have a finished project at the end of the 2/2hour classes. I have found that it seems to please the students to have something finished instead of leaving a beginning class with nothing but a swatch. If there is time, we will go into more stitches and talk about future projects. I have a sock class starting on May 23rd and another one starting on May 24th. I also have a beginning knit class starting on May 29th at 2:oo pm and another one at 4:00 pm. I have taught plenty of these classes so I am not expecting anything dramatic to happen. Although you never know when someone will surprise you with a question that you wouldn't expect.

I have been listening to Pointy Stick's podcast today and have really enjoyed it. I listen to several different knitting podcasts and so far, have enjoyed them all. Here are a few of them. "Cast On, Pointy Sticks, Knitting News Cast, Its a Purl, Man, Knit Picks, Stash and Burn" I don't know if that is all of them or not. I have to look on my iPod in order to remember the rest of them. If you have an iPod they make great traveling shows or you can listen to them on your computer. I tend to only have time to listen when I am in my car. Give them a try. I think you will find some very useful information.

Well, time to get back to my knitting! I have added yet more to my stash. I purchased one ball of Tofutsie, three balls of Jawoll, and one of Kollage's PoP! The rest of the sock will be done with Jawoll in a matching color.

I am also starting a sock on 2 circulars to use as a demo in a class I am teaching. I am working on a jacket by Oak Couture. It is called "The Seville Jacket". I am knitting for the new shop in Grand Blanc, Michigan. It is a long sleeve, short jacket, with a cable trim around the cuff and all the edges around the jacket. I am using Nature's Cotton, color Putty. It is 100% cotton chunky, thick & thin. I am knitting it with Addi Turbos Circs size 9 for the cabling and 10 for the body. I will post pictures when it is finished.

I am also knitting a pair of ankle socks for my daughter using Trekking sock yarn color 135. It has a real bright colorway. I am knitting it on "0s" because I like the smoothness the "0s" give. Once these socks are finished, I start knitting on socks for the "Socks For Soldiers" program. There information can be found at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SOCKFORSOLDIERS What a great charity!

EWE TO YOU YARNS - GRAND BLANC, MICHIGAN

Grand Blanc, Michigan now has a yarn shop! I had to take out 16 rows because of some splits in the yarn.

Argh! While increasing the V-neck I was also suppose to start increasing the edge on the armhole when reaching a certain point. Well, I didn't see that in the instructions. I am back to the point of doing the increases again and this time will be keeping track so I don't miss the increases on the armhole. Lesson learned on this one. I got in a hurry and didn't read the pattern all the way through before starting.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://theknittedman.blogspot.com/2006/02/argh-this-stupid-vest_07.html' title='Argh! I have to wait until tomorrow to go check them out. I ended up going to Michaels and I found two books for my granddaughter's sweater. They are from Leisure Arts. One is Beautiful Baby and the other one is Sweaters for a Liftime. Both have excellent patterns in them. I can't wait to get started on one of them. It is the first time in a long time that I have found a book that had more than one pattern that I like in it. I will post later about which one I decided to knit.

Will

Knitting Away

Hello for the first time! I have been busy knitting away trying to get things finished up. I started a vest for my partner John last winter and it still isn't quite finished. It seems that things keep getting in the way. I decided to crochet an afghan for our daughter Lisa(20) and so I have been trying to get that done so it can be used before winter is over! I have several projects that I need to get finished! I tend to start many things because I get bored real easy. Hope to have pictures up soon. I haven't done a blog before so we'll see how it goes. See you all soon...

Still Trying

Well I am still trying to figure out Blogger!
