Drop Spindle Spinning
I bought a drop spindle and some roving about 2 months ago and really never got going on it. I made two attempts and wasn't impressed with my spinning skills so I set it aside for a month. Two days ago I got it back out and made the third attempt. Well, I am so impressed. I am spinning almost thread like yarn to make a 2ply lace weight yarn. I am not sure how I managed it but all of a sudden it made sense to me.

I am so excited that it is coming together. I am hoping that sometime after November I will be getting a wheel. If that is as much fun and relaxing as a drop spindle, then I will have a blast.

This is something I have always wanted to try. You Ravenclaws are a talented bunch. Have you taken any spinning classes?

I haven't taken any classes. I just bought the drop spindle, roving, and was on my way. I have been spinning quite a lot this weekend considering I just learned. I am getting a real consistent twist. The yarn is consistent in thickness. I also did a 2ply yarn that I am going to knit up as a sample for my friends shop where I bought the kit. It is a kit from Louet. It comes with a top whorl drop spindle and 3 balls of roving. Your local LYS can order a few different colors. The spindle that comes with it is a little heavy for spinning lace weight but I have found that I can spin it if I don't let the spindle hang to draft the yarn.
